Richard Donald Peveler

Richard Donald Peveler, 89, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011 at The Valley Hospital in New Jersey. He was born August 17, 1921 in Akron, Ohio to the late Paul and Annette Peveler. He moved to Savannah as a young child and was a graduate of Savannah High School, as well as Armstrong Junior College. Mr. Peveler was a United States Army Veteran serving as a radio operator in the Southeast Pacific during World War II, and was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was also part of a bomber group that flew over the hump in Southeast Asia. He retired from Bellsouth after more than 50 years of service and was a member of Isle of Hope Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris B. Peveler, two sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Pam Peveler, of Huntsville, Alabama, and David and Mary Leigh Peveler, of Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Patrick, Megan, Alix, Rick, and Matt Peveler.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 6, 2011 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, with the Reverend Billy Miller officiating.
